Tuck into a leg of a tandoori chicken at a Punjabi dhaba (roadside restaurant) in South Delhi, sip a cardamom-spiced chai at a teahouse in British-era Connaught Place in the city center, rummage through Indian kitsch and cotton clothing and haggle till you drop at the Sarojini Nagar Market, or, hey, for that one-off, just dive into the thick of humanity at Chauri Bazaar in the people-packed lanes of Chandni Chowk and live to tell about it. And yeah, if you're in town on the 26th of January, India's Republic Day, go and watch a grand parade roll down that broad, lawns-flanked avenue at India Gate, with its military bands, tanks, missiles, shining armor and all. It's quite a sight!
