There are real-time locales of The Sound of Music all around that you can tour, there's a funicular running up to a hilltop fortress-castle with fabulous, 360-degree views, and there's an old town brimming with Baroque buildings housing shops selling figurines of classical musicians and Tyrolean hats with feathers, and cafés where you can kick back with a latté-style mélange and those delectable, melt-in-your-mouth meringues they call Salzburger Nockerln. And if you're a pushover for classical music, come in late July for the Salzburg Festival and you'll be treated to the music of Mozart wherever you go. Flippin' A, right?
