Remember "Prisoners of the Sun" in the comic-book series, The Adventures of Tintin? Well, hey, if you're here during Summer Solstice, you can see, in realtime, all those ancient Inca rituals at the Festival of the Sun. Pretty cool, no? And in town, you can linger in the old plazas, rummage through handicrafts and handwoven Andean garments at the artisan shops, tuck into a roasted guinea pig they call cuy at one of the unpretentious eateries in the old town, or, maybe, just kick back at the Plaza de Armas in the center of town with a craft brew or pisco sour or even a coca-leaf tea – the beverage of choice here! – before hitting the trail to the mountain-top digs of Machu Picchu.
