There's an entire harbor packed with sailboats – you've never seen so many sailboats in one place, ever! – and inner-city pockets brimming with bistros and cafés where you can sip a Marlborough-region Sauvignon Blanc alongside a slice of that soft-centered meringue they call pavlova, and chocolatiers where you can buy chocolates in the shape of little white sheep. Downtown's Vulcan Lane's a scream, as are Newmarket and inner-city Parnell and Ponsonby. And if you go to the top of One Tree Hill or any of those grassy volcanic knolls, or, heck, the center-city Sky Tower's top deck, you'll get killer views of the city, the main harbor, and the ocean beyond – all in one sweep! Oh, and take in at least one All Blacks' rugby game and watch them do the thigh-slapping, foot-stomping Maori warrior dance called Haka! It's quite something!
