It's a city dripping in color. There are pink palaces with Escheresque wind-chutes and mirrors to lose yourself in, jewel-adorned and henna-face-painted elephants to ride on, ostentatious wedding processions sporting red turbans and gaudy saris to tag along with, and replica miniature-painting souvenirs to take back home with you. If you pop over to the village of Sanganer at the south end of the city, you can pick through one-off block-print fabrics with floral motifs and depictions of Hindu gods and goddesses; and at Johri Bazaar, in the heart of the city, you can even stop by one of the scores of street-food carts there to tuck into those doughy "dahi vadas" drizzled in cumin- and corriander-spiced yogurt that are literally to-die-for!
