Tenerife Spain Travel Guide
You’re in Spain here, but a long way from mainland Spain. There's brilliant sunshine, and glorious golden beaches crawling with European holiday-makers. In the capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife you can race around shop-hopping, stop by Bodegas Monje for a spell of wine tasting and nibbling on Canarian goat cheeses, or take five at a sidewalk café on El Sauzal with a glass of that milky Canarian coffee. In Puerto de la Cruz, on the north coast of the island, there are some great little restaurants where you can tuck into combtooth blennies, a specialty here, with a side of Canarian wrinkly potatoes in mojo and a scoop of chickpea gofio, and wash it all down with a glass of Malvasia Canary wine. And down in Los Cristianos on the southwest corner of the island, in the pocket of Las Verónicas, you can dive right into the frenzied nightlife and dance to some wicked Spanish rock till the break of dawn. Salud!
