It’s a long way from anywhere, at the northwestern tip of Oz. But so what, right? This is where deep-hued red rocks meet a turquoise sea. You can see 130-million-year-old dinosaur footprints fossilized in the rocky beds at Gantheaume Point, and climb into the lighthouse there for sweeping, wide-angle views of the Indian Ocean and, whipping around, the blazing-red Kimberly landscape. At Cable Beach, the main beach here, you can walk for miles in the white sand and even catch a camel ride beneath a fiery sunset sky. In town, you can rummage in the shops in Chinatown and the weekend handicrafts markets by the courthouse, and stop by the Cygnet Bay or Paspaley showroom to pick up cultured pearls plucked fresh from the sea – right off the coast here! And yeah, you can splash on the verandah of one of the restaurants or cafés in the town center, say the Green Mango Café, to gorge on homemade mango gelato or sip a mango smoothie! Right on!
