It’s one of those places you didn’t know even existed, right? And it’ll surprise you, for it has everything. There's Sisters where you can soak in a beer spa, there's Mt Bachelor where you can shred a powder ski run, and there's the Deschutes River, right on your doorstep, where you can slip into your kayak and shoot the rapids. The downtown and old town are small and mostly crowded around Wall and Bond streets, with pubs – including the premier Deschutes Brewery pub – pouring locally-brewed craft beers, which are pretty kickass. And if you come in mid-May and pop over to the Old Mill District just to the south of downtown, you can even watch athletes cross the finish line in the annual “Pole, Pedal, Paddle!” – a local twist on the traditional triathlon!
