Krakow
Kraków Poland Travel Guide
It's the hub of Poland's history and culture. You can march up to the Wawel Castle, one of Poland’s most famous fortifications, set on a hill above Stare Miasto, the Old Town, and take in the granddaddy views over the Vistula River. From there, if you head north on Grodska Street, down the Royal Road, you'll come upon the expansive, brick-paved, bustling Main Square, Europe’s largest medieval plaza, where you can wander amid rock pigeons and bronze statues of Polish poets and heroes on horseback, pausing perhaps at one of the scores of street-food vendors to nibble on Kraków’s unique braided bread, obwarzanki krakowskie, and maybe even splash at an outdoor café for a juicy kielbasa, or Polish sausage, and a strong, hoppy Polska beer. And remember, in Polish there’s a phrase for cheers: Na Zdrowie!
