Look around and you’ll see Roman ruins, most prominently Porta Nigra – the iconic city gate – and the Roman Amphitheater and Roman Baths. You can wander over to them, poke around and take a selfie or two. Or, just splash on the terrace of, say, the Brunnenhof Grill & Bar in the shadow of that old city gate and sip a chilled riesling and people-watch to your heart’s content. Across from there, in the central square, you can browse in shops and galleries, and stop in at a restaurant to tuck into some potato pancakes smeared with a beet-centric spread they call Zuckerrübenkraut. Oh, and don’t be surprised to hear a bit of French mixed in with the German – France and Luxembourg are all but a stone’s throw from here!
