Monterey California Travel Guide
If you come in from the north, on Highways 101 and 1, you'll get a full-on of the aquamarine bay upon which the town sits. You’ll see sea lions basking on the rocks and barking away like they own the place, and a lively Fisherman's Wharf with seafood joints serving calamari and clam chowder. In town, there’s a sprinkling of California-colonial buildings and Mexican-era adobes fronting on brick-paved sidewalks and neat little plazas, mostly preserved as living museums. On Cannery Row you can search out vestiges of locales from John Steinbeck’s novel of the same name, and poke around in souvenir shops and splash at one of the restaurants there for the catch of the day and a chocolate dessert. Oh, and there's the Monterey Bay Aquarium there too, where you can marvel at their three-story-high kelp forest and watch a diver in a cloud of fish at feed time. What fun!
