Kauai Hawaii Travel Guide

[Last updated January 2, 2021]

You’ll think you’re in the Garden of Eden, surrounded by lush tropical flora – plumeria, hibiscus, anthuriums, orchids, ginger and birds of paradise. At Hanalei, on the north shore, you can search out the former digs of entertainer Graham Nash and maybe even rent the Tree House there for an overnight. Later on, you can splash on the broad, sandy sweep of Lumahai Beach where they filmed South Pacific and Blue Hawaii, starring Elvis Presley (yes, real oldies!). On the south shore, you can hike to Waimea Canyon, a lookalike of the Grand Canyon, and watch the colors of the gorge turn rust and ochre in the setting sun. But the best ride here? A helicopter tour of the caved-in Mount Wai’ale’ale in the center of the island, the sight of which, with its massive size and depth – more than 5,100 feet! – you won’t soon forget!
