Nevada City California

[Last updated March 27, 2021]

It’s a funky sort of town, smack in the middle of California’s golden poppy-covered foothills in the Gold Rush country. There are red-brick Gold Rush-era buildings alongside old, wood-frame storefronts. You can walk down covered walkways on wooden planks on Broad and Commercial streets and some of the side streets, peeking in quaint shops and hole-in-the-wall galleries. And if you come on a Wednesday in the summertime, you'll get to dive into the “Hot Summer Night” street fair and dance with aging hippies in tie-dye t-shirts, as well as modern-day flower children, to folk, bluegrass, acid rock, acid jazz, and just funky music – think banjos, fiddles, acoustic guitars, trumpets, trombones, harmonicas, tambourines...you get the picture! Oh, and if it's a weekend night, you can even hit the Crazy Horse Saloon on Commercial and shake that booty till you drop! Pretty chill, really.
