Black Forest Germany Travel Guide

[Last updated January 7, 2021]

It’s Germany’s go-to holiday spot. There are beautiful hills and forests littered with bucolic villages and small towns that are just picture-perfect, filled with traditional-style homes and boutique hotels with timbered façades and balconies dripping with blooming geraniums. There are music festivals where you can kick it with the locals attired in trachten, or national dress, or pop into a quaint clockmaker's shop, say in Triberg, where you can pick up a souvenir cuckoo clock to take back home. Or, hey, just slip into one of the atmospheric cafés in Freiburg for a glass of Baden wine from a Rhine-facing vineyard, alongside a slice of cream and maraschino cherry-topped Black Forest Cake; or maybe raise a toast at an old-fashioned tavern with a locally-brewed, frothy Alpinsbacher Klosterbräu. And you know, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a rural road here that's anything but scenic!
