You're on top of the world here, literally, high up in the Andes. You can meander in narrow, brick-paved lanes in the old town, soak in a warm beer bath as you sip a microbrew at the Adventure Brew Hostel, take in a jam session of charango music at the Museo de Instrumentos Musicales, bargain-hunt for an alpaca sweater or bowler hat or even a mounted tarantula (an outlandish souvenir to take back home, right?) at the Witches Market, or just ride the cable car from La Paz to El Alto, which is a total trip, zipping across from 12,000 feet to 13,000 feet! And yeah, join the locals at a downtown eatery on, say, Calle Sagarnaga to tuck into a baby llama heart and sip some coca tea. Truly, it's a one-off all the way!
