Hudson Valley New York

[Last updated January 6, 2021]

It’s a slice of New York you may not have imagined. But if you head north from the city, say from Yonkers which is just to the north of Manhattan, you'll discover a patchwork of towns, villages and small cities, crisscrossing the Hudson River, brimming with history museums, art galleries and foodie joints, backdropped by vineyards, orchards and even mom-and-pop farms. Just out from the city, in Tarrytown, you can splurge on a $195-per-head tasting menu at the Blue Hill at Stone Barns restaurant; in Beacon, at a Nabisco box-printing factory turned gallery, you can admire on-loan Warhol pieces alongside edgy sculptures and later on kickback with a small-batch craft beer at the Hudson Valley Brewery; and in the small towns of Rhinebeck and, father north, Hudson, you can walk along the main streets and poke around in funky shops and boutiques. And, who knows, somewhere along the way you might even think you saw the Headless Horseman from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow flash past a blaze of fall color!
