Würzburg Germany Travel Guide
You’re in the heart of the Franconian wine country here, where they make a dry white wine from the Silvaner grape. And not just that, the wine comes out of a bocksbeutel, a flattened oval-shaped bottle, which you won’t find anyplace else. But wander around in the old town, between lovely Baroque buildings, many of them winding around cobbled streets, housing ateliers, shops, restaurants and cafes and wine bars where you can sniff and sip a Franken Spatlese; then go and see the 18th-century Würzburg Residenz where you can marvel at Venetian painter Tiepolo’s fabulous fresco. Or, just go and stand at the stone-brick wall of the fortress Marienberg that sits on a hill on the periphery of the city, overlooking the river Main and the ancient Old Main Bridge, and you’ll get the grandest view of the town!
