Here, it's all about bulls. Well, mostly. If you come in mid-July, you'll be in the thick of San Fermin, more famously “The Running of the Bulls.” That’s where they let loose a herd of hard-charging bulls down a handful of streets in the old town, headed for the bullring, right behind scores of red-scarved runners diving out of the way. Hemingway once ran with the bulls and memorialized it in his 1926 novel, The Sun Also Rises. In town, you can explore the narrow, brick-paved streets in Casco Antiguo, the historic center, or walk along the city’s medieval walls, or splash at a café in the town square for a glass of Navarra wine or that sharp cider they produce locally, and maybe even tuck into some bull stew (okay, no bull for vegetarians, just the carrots, potatoes, bell peppers, onion, garlic, tomato sauce and saffron!). Salud!
